UNDERCOVER

When DAYS's Kristen wore a mask to impersonate Nicole, “It had to be a very special silicone mask,” Makeup Artist Elizabeth Dahl emphasizes. “They had to do a face mold, pour the silicone, then bring it to us for a fitting, etc. That required several weeks.” It began with Arianne Zucker (Nicole) sitting back in a chair while papier mâché-like strips were applied on her face followed by “a goo” substance that had to set to make a mold. “As I was going through the process of the making of it, I tried to keep a smile on, but as they put layer after layer on, your face starts to get weighed down,” Zucker recalls. “It took 30 minutes, maybe, from sitting down in the chair to painting it on. It is much shorter now than I’m sure it was back in the day. You just have to hope you’re not claustrophobic, because they paint all over your whole face except your nostrils. It’s pretty incredible. It’s just amazing what they can do as far as art and makeup and synthetic things.”
