HALLOWEEN SPOILERS!
The soaps will pull out tricks and treats for their Halloween episodes this year.
“This is the third Halloween that I’ve written since I’ve come to DAYS OF OUR LIVES,” says Head Writer Ron Carlivati. “You can really do anything. You can let your imagination run wild. You can go all out. You can kill people off because it may or may not be really happening. We had so much fun doing the first two that we decided to do it again. There is a very special Halloween episode. There’s a couple of surprise guests that will come back. There’s a lot of mayhem and murder. On the whole, I think for the audience, especially the longtime audience, it will be a lot of fun.”
Over on B&B, Quinn and
Eric will host a Halloween bash. “At the soirée, Shauna wants to reminisce with married Ridge about the steamy kiss that they recently shared,” previews Executive Producer/ Head Writer Bradley Bell. “Despite the disapproval of Brooke and Liam, Hope dons a costume and attends, in an attempt to get Thomas to sign adoption papers giving her joint custody of his son Douglas. [See page 14 for more.] Meanwhile, Liam takes baby Beth to share Halloween night with his exwife, Steffy, and their daughter, Kelly, and these two star-crossed lovers exchange secrets and fears, adore their daughters and take great joy in their ‘forever’ bond.”
Y&R will focus on the dreams of five individuals:
Phyllis, Rey, Abby, Nick and Kyle. “Over the course of my career, I’ve always loved to tell dream episodes and find ways to fit them into stories on shows,” says Head Writer Josh Griffith. “It’s visually fun to do, it’s interesting for the audience, and it’s a wonderful way to tap into the psyche of the characters. It’s a great way to visualize the emotional and psychological dynamics that are going on in any character.”
For this stand-alone episode, “Nick is flipping channels
and he stops at a horror movie, so that sort of sets the template for the night but it’s not all his dream,” Griffith explains. “Each one of these people falls asleep and they have their own wild dream. In Nick’s dream, everyone is praising Adam! Abby is in a position of getting a lot of success but in the back of her mind, she’s always had, ‘Do I deserve this?’ so she seemed to be perfectly suited for that kind of Mary Tyler Moore/’70s sitcom dynamic. Rey and Sharon
just felt like they’re poised for a classic ’40s blackand-white film noir. Kyle, Lola and Theo experience an ’80s rom-com, and we took Phyllis where she’s feeling like she’s on top of the world and pull the rug out from under her, so what is she going to do to fight back?” As for the ripple effects, “There will be no specific takeaway from each dream, but emotionally they will learn a little something about themselves,” says Griffith.
