GOING THEIR WAY
■ This week also reveals how Tony and Anna wound up leaving Salem. “When we did the time jump, there was so much to accomplish,” explains Carlivati. “We were throwing so much to the audience with Jennifer waking up to a new Salem, and Chad and Abigail back on the canvas, and all of those sort of surprises. With so much going on, what we realized is there really wasn’t room for Tony and Anna when we came back after the time jump. Early on, we revealed through Gabi when she talked about gaining control of Dimera, that Tony and Anna had gone back to Europe. And so that was always a little piece that I felt the audience didn’t get to see. We realized that we could now see their exit. I mean, that was one of the great things about the time jump, that at any time you could go back and show moments that you missed. In filling out that week, that was something we realized we could do, that we could play what prompted Tony and Anna to leave Salem and how they could possibly affect one of these big stories on their way out of town.”
Leann Hunley (Anna) and Thaao Penghlis (Tony) will air again next week, and, winks Carlivati, “I would say that there’s definitely a good chance that you will see Tony and Anna again. I love having all of those utility players and those legacy characters.
They may be off the canvas or outside of Salem, but for me they’re never really gone.
I always love that we can go into our little toy chest and pull out these fan favorites and bring them back into play. It was such a nice little journey to see Tony and Anna find their way back to one another.”
