YOUNG AND RESTLESS and BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL

-

Y&R and B&B each popped the cork on juicy secrets, with riveting results.

On Y&R, Adam was feeling high and mighty after blackmailing his way into the CEO seat of Newman Enterprises by threatening to expose Victor’s connection to the long-ago death of AJ Montalvo. Victoria was livid over her ouster as Newman’s top dog, and dissatisfied by Victor’s cryptic assertion that he’d had no other choice. Nikki blabbed the truth to her daughter — off camera — after which Vicky paid Adam an “I-know-something-youdon’t-know”-themed visit. He charged over to the ranch to make more demands. “You don’t want to test me, Dad,” Adam growled to a poker-faced Victor. Eyebrows arched, Victor lowered the boom. “It was you, son,” he intoned. “You killed Alyssa’s father.”

He stunned Adam with the story of how AJ had threatened Hope — and how an 11-year-old Adam had tackled the menace, who struck his head and died. Victor paid off the local coroner to keep the deets under wraps to protect his son, and, per the senior Newman’s account, a traumatized Adam had blocked out his memories of the tragedy.

Adam didn’t buy it, and scoffed, sneered and objected throughout Victor’s account, but Victor coolly countered that Adam had “no other choice” but to step down from Newman, warning him that telling the story of AJ’S demise would have dire consequences (“Your life would be ruined!”). A rattled Adam retreated home, and confided in Chelsea that he’d been fired — while keeping to himself the reasons why. While fans will have to wait for the resumption of Y&R’S original episodes to find out what happens next, there is much meat for the writers to explore in terms of how this reveal will shake up the Adam/victor, Adam/victoria and potentially the Adam/ Chelsea relationships.

Over on B&B, Sally’s wild fake terminal illness scam came crashing down around her when Flo figured out that Sal was lying, not dying, by helping herself to a glance at Sally’s medical records. To get proof, she played on Sally’s fear of snakes, dropping a faux reptile on the floor at the beach house, which caused Sally

to hit the roof and shed her deathbed demeanor as she ran around the house to duck the slithering intruder. A furious Flo called her out, and after several denials, Sally finally cracked, unleashing her deepseated anger over losing her fiancé, Wyatt, to Flo.

While relieved that Sally’s expiration date wasn’t coming around anytime soon, Flo was also understandably outraged by her trickery, and moved to call Wyatt to fill him in. Sally’s co-conspirator/doctor, Penny, showed up, realized that the jig was about to be up, panicked and clobbered Flo over the head with a candlestick.

Chaos ensued, and the duo grew frantic as they tried to figure out their next move. The countdown clock was ticking fast, as Wyatt rolled up to the house, unaware of the drama unfolding inside. Desperate to conceal the crime, Sally and Penny began desperately dragging an unconscious Flo into the bedroom. Just then, Wyatt walked in, and the episode closed on a close-up of Darin Brooks’s (Wyatt) shocked expression as Wyatt gasped, “What the hell?!”

Like its sister sudser, B&B is on an unforeseen production pause — but it was fortuitous timing, indeed, that it ended on such a perfect cliffhanger. Both shows are poised to pick up the action at powerfully dramatic points — and we will be counting the days until the next chapters begin.
