SAM’S CLUB

I love GH’S Davis girls! They’re far from perfect and hurt each other, but deep down they will always be there for each other. The fights are hard to watch sometimes but I feel like this one was needed. I like Sam, normally, but she hasn’t been “normal” for a long time. You have to wonder why they changed Sam so much when Jason came back. Kristina was right. She wanted her life one way with “Jason”, who was really Drew. He tried to give her and her children safer lives and put boundaries around his friendships with Carly and Sonny. Sam was happier. We saw that and we enjoyed it. Then Jason comes back and

suddenly, she is dumping her kids to chase one chaotic situation after another while Jason tends to every need of Sonny and Carly’s. In all fairness, that is who Jason has always been, but we got to see Sam grow up a little during his absence. If they have to write Sam like this to make the relationship work, is it worth it? I don’t think the pairing is good for her character anymore and I would like to see them switch gears with Sam in the near future.

PRECIOUS MOMENTS

I have been watching the older episodes of Y&R that have been airing since production of the show has been shut down. I have only been watching Y&R for the past 10 years but I knew about Victor and Nikki and their history even before I began watching regularly. The episode aired originally on April 14, 1998 was particularly wonderful, especially the very last scene in the episode. To recap, this episode was about Victor having married Nikki on her death bed and having to explain to Diane that it was only to keep Nikki from dying. Earlier in the episode Nikki had been complaining about looking washed out and tired as she lay in her hospital bed. In that last scene she had been sleeping when Victor came in with a bag from the gift shop. Nikki asked Victor what was in the bag and he told her it was makeup for her since she had been worried about how she looked. Nikki told Victor she didn’t have the energy to put the makeup on and she asked him to do it. Shocked by her request but willing to please her, Victor complied. There were no words, just the camera panning in and out of the scene showing Victor applying powder, blush and lipstick as

Nikki beamed at him. Victor was grinning joyfully as he watched his beloved. Both actors were amazing! The scene clearly showcased the feelings between Victor and Nikki without a word, but it also showed the undeniable chemistry that Eric Braeden and Melody Thomas Scott had and still have in order to make their romance as timeless as it still is. It was a beautiful and touching moment made all the more beautiful because of the people who portray Victor and Nikki.

THEY’RE CLASSICS

Per Stephanie Sloane’s suggestion in the Editor’s Note section of the May 4th edition of the magazine, here are my picks for classic episodes the shows should air:

For Y&R, I would love to see classic Lauren/sheila showdowns. But only the ones with Tracey Bregman [Lauren] and Kimberlin Brown [ex-sheila], not the ones where Sheila had plastic surgery to look like Michelle Stafford’s Phyllis.

For B&B, classic Stephanie/brooke episodes would be wonderful to revisit. I know there are enough of these episodes to take up a whole month, so picking just five of them could be difficult, but fun to figure out. As a runner-up, I would also like to see classic Stephanie/sally Spectra episodes (Darlene Conley’s Sally, obviously). Can you tell that I’m a huge Susan Flannery fan? Thanks for letting me put this out there. Love the magazine. Been a subscriber for more years than I can count.

PRESENT AND ACCOUNTED FOR

I’ve read several letters in your magazine and have seen some posted online concerning the past episodes some soaps are airing while the studios are shut down. Many of the letter writers think the soaps should air very old episodes. I disagree. Yesterday I watched the

B&B wedding of Brooke and Ridge that must have been filmed in the 1990s. Although the scenery was lovely, other than a few characters, I had no idea who most of those people were. Today’s B&B episode was Steffy and Liam’s more recent wedding in Australia, and I enjoyed it much more. The problem with soaps digging into their archives for vintage episodes is lack of context. I’m not the only viewer who hasn’t watched my current soaps from the beginning. One of the best reasons for using the time slots to air previous episodes is to draw in new viewers and catch them up to the current storylines. Episodes from 20 years ago will not do that. I applaud the soaps for not giving up on us fans, but I don’t want to

watch shows filmed in analog with characters and stories I know nothing about. Pamela J., Noblesville, IN

LET’S DISH

I just wanted to comment that I appreciated your interview with Y&R’S Jordi Vilasuso [Rey] on the Dishing with Digest podcast. I was so moved by the Instagram video that Jordi and his wife, Kaitlin, posted where they announced that they, along with their two young daughters, had gotten COVID-19. I admire them for sharing their experience with everyone, and I’m so relieved that Jordi and his family have recovered from the coronavirus. It warmed my heart listening to your podcast and hearing Jordi speak about the outpouring of love he has received from fans and his Y&R family. I really enjoy his Y&R character, Rey Rosales, and as a longtime CBS daytime watcher, I have fond memories of Jordi on GUIDING LIGHT [as Tony], as well. I also loved hearing Jordi speak so fondly about his Y&R costars. He spoke glowingly of Sharon Case [Sharon], and it’s evident that they work well together as we see Rey support Sharon through her cancer battle. Jordi also mentioning Noemi Gonzalez [ex-mia] and Jason Canela [ex-arturo] makes me think it’s such a missed opportunity that their characters were written out, and that we didn’t have more time with them. Jordi’s words about his on-screen sister, Sasha Calle [Lola], were so sweet, and I’m glad to see the Rosales siblings continue to thrive on Y&R. Grace B., Buffalo, NY
