thumbs down! DAYS OF OUR LIVES Crabby “Chabby”
In 2019, Chad and Abby were so important to DAYS that the duo got a spin-off series on the DOOL App chronicling their adventures in Paris. Flash-forward to today and it’s hard to recognize the pair that was poised to become the show’s next signature supercouple. While the ping-ponging between Emmy-winner Kate Mansi and Marci Miller playing Abigail hasn’t helped to maintain the throughline of this romance, the disconnect between “Chabby” since Gwen’s arrival has been a big head-scratcher. The two were in a solid place when they came back to Salem after Jennifer landed in a coma, but Gwen’s easy manipulation of them has made Chad look jerky and Abigail completely unglued and unrecognizable. Gwen and Chad’s one-nightstand and pregnancy seemed to be the classic obstacle, but now that she lost the baby and falsely blamed Abigail, we have to wonder what the point was at all, and whether the consequences of Chad cheating was worth the damage done to the integrity of the couple. Here’s hoping that once Miller returns from maternity leave, “Chabby” will get a much-needed reboot.
thumbs up! BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL Strange Bedfellows
It’s been a while since B&B has undertaken a properly scandalous and juicy cheating story (one that doesn’t involve a mannequin, at least!), but Quinn and Carter were an inspired
for one. It makes perfect sense that these two lonely souls would take comfort in one another as he reels from his breakup with Zoe and she struggles with the cold snap in her marriage to Eric, but their impulsive sack session(s) immediately added a rush of complications to their troubled relationships. It’s bad enough for the pair that their guilty consciences burn as hotly as their lust, but the house of cards they’re suddenly charged with managing has become yet more precarious since Shauna stepped in to claim that she was the woman Carter took to bed, all in the name of helping her BFF cover up the tryst. With a bevy of hearts at risk of breaking and multiple relationships on the line, this steamy affair is a jawdropping twist oozing with dramatic potential — and we can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
thumbs down! GENERAL HOSPITAL Family Feud
We were intrigued by the surprise reveal that Cyrus and Martin are Laura’s longlost half brothers, but since the truth came out, the plot has lagged. Cyrus’s fixation on proving to Laura that they are “the same” has resulted in them having, well, the same conversation over and over again, which has done nothing to amp up the dramatic stakes between them — not to mention that Cyrus’s odd longing for her approval undercuts his gravitas as a baddie. Don’t get us wrong: It’s a blast to watch Genie Francis whenever Laura gets to unleash the full force of her anger toward the man whose nefarious behavior landed her daughchoice ter in a coma — and if her alliance with Carly and Ava results in the women taking Cyrus down once and for all, we’ll be thrilled. But to hold our interest over time, stories need peaks and valleys — and this one has felt oddly flat.
