B&B: Liam Confesses To Hope

-

■ After weeks of struggling to come clean, Liam finally reveals to Hope that he accidentally ran down Vinny, and Bill forced him to cover it up. “Yeah, that shouldn’t be a surprise,” states portrayer Scott Clifton of Liam telling the truth. “Everything about the storyline has been telling the audience that something is going to give. There’s going to be a breaking point. I’m not exactly sure what the straw that broke the camel’s — or in this case Liam’s — back was but yes, the tipping point arrives and Liam has to tell Hope.”

Hope’s reaction leaves Liam a bit mystified. “Hope is like Liam’s ambassador to the rest of the world,” chuckles Clifton. “So, if Liam is going to tell the police or tell anybody anything, Liam is going to go to Hope first. She is his confidante and how Hope reacts, Liam uses as a test to understand how the rest of the world is going to react. Sure enough, Hope is horrified but it doesn’t take that long for her to say regarding the coverup, ‘This was not evil on your part. This is stupid, maybe weak, but not evil.’ I think Liam needed to hear that from somebody. Hearing it from his dad doesn’t mean much to him,

“Hope is horrified.”

so it is a big deal for Liam to come to Hope with this.”

Now that Liam has spilled all to his wife, they try to figure out his next move. “Liam knows that once this cat is out of the proverbial bag, his life could very well never be the same again,” the actor points out. “Even volunteering this information to Hope could be the gateway for Liam going to prison for the rest of his life. On one side of the scale, you’ve got this new life that Liam is starting to create with Hope. Things are getting back to normal, he’s starting to get his life back. On the other side of the scale, you’ve got this terrible tragedy that has happened that makes it impossible for him to have his life back, even if nobody else knew. You can’t be a good person to the people you love with something like this hanging over your head. Liam is not the most logical person; in fact, he’s probably the least logical person. But telling Hope is a pretty logical decision on his part and I, as his portrayer, think he’s right.”
