OVER DUO: Kayla Brady and Shane Donovan
ROMANCE REPORT: After Steve was presumed dead in 1990, his devastated widow, Kayla, moved in with Shane for protection. Her ex brother-in-law, a former ISA agent, was up to the task, having thrown himself into his work after divorcing Kimberly. Living together drew the two lonely souls to one another and, before long, they began a relationship. However, things got complicated when Kimberly returned to Salem in 1991 and was none too pleased to find her sister and onetime hubby cohabitating. The drama only intensified when Kimberly was assigned to work with Shane to investigate Lawrence Alamain, who was suspected of spreading a virus that was killing off ISA agents. During the mission, Shane wound up shot and paralyzed, and refused to have surgery to regain the use of his legs. As Kayla helped him recover, their relationship deepened. Yet, realizing a serious future with Shane was impossible, considering his lingering feelings for Kimberly, Kayla decided to end things. In 1992, she decided to move to Los Angeles and start a new life with her daughter, Stephanie. Eventually, Kim and Shane reunited, as did Kayla and a back-from-the-dead Steve.
