Y&R: JACK AND ASHLEY FACE OFF
■ Ashley comes home from Paris and the first person to greet her in the Abbott manse is Diane. Ash doesn’t hide her disdain and hopes Diane is just leaving after a visit with Harrison, but Ms. Jenkins announces that she’s sticking around. Enter Jack, who’s surprised that his sister has come home earlier than expected. “I know Jack recently said that he should call Ashley in Paris to give her a headsup about Diane moving in so she could let out all of her anger before returning to Genoa City,” chuckles Peter Bergman (Jack). “Unfortunately, he forgot to do that. Damn it. So Ashley comes home and is immediately, ‘Wait, what? Diane is spending the night here?’ ”
Jack confirms it’s more than that, and that he and Diane are together now. Needless to say, Ashley doesn’t react favorably. “She refuses to see Jack’s side of this thing with Diane, and unable to allow for the possibility that Diane has changed,” Bergman points out. “Ashley and Jack have had their share of quarrels, but what she does time and again is push Jack into the direction she doesn’t want

him to go. This reminds me of when Jack was able to forgive their mother but Ashley had a much harder time with it. So, here we are again, needing a little forgiveness and grace but Ashley is slow to give it.
“They really push each other’s buttons,” continues the actor. “Jack starts telling Ashley how things work in this family and that drives her nuts. She then tells Jack that she’s embarrassed for him and that really ticks him off.”
Jack then makes a decision. “He tells Ashley to find another place to stay,” previews Bergman. “As far as Jack’s concerned, Ashley will be a long-term project when it comes to changing her attitude about Diane. Jack is going to be doubling down on this and he’s not going to let his sister run his life.”
