Man charged with having sex with teen

A 21-year-old Souderton man is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl who was babysitting his daughters.

Robert Michael Thompson, of the 500 block of Valley Lane, was taken to Montgomery County Prison after failing to post $150,000 bail following his Aug. 8 preliminary arraignment before District Judge Kenneth Deatelhauser, according to online court records.

According to the affidavit of probable cause in the case, Souderton Borough Police Department was contacted July 27 by the girl’s mother who said she read text messages from Thompson on her daughter’s cellphone, then talked to her daughter about the messages and the daugh- ter admitted to having sex with Thompson.

When the daughter was interviewed, police said in court documents, she said she and Thompson had sex two times, once in June and again July 4. The girl said she helped put Thompson’s daughters to bed, then she and Thompson had sex on his bed in the same room in which the daughters were sleeping, police said.

The teenager also said Thompson sent a sexually explicit photo to her cellphone and asked her to send one to him, which she did, police said.

Thompson was arraigned on charges of statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault of someone younger than 16, corruption of minors and indecent assault of someone younger than 16. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 23.
