Garrett H. Shoemaker
Garrett H. Shoemaker, age 103, died Aug. 27, 2012, at Souderton Mennonite Homes. He was the husband of Margaret H. Shoemaker, who died Sept. 2, 2010. At the time of Margaret’s death, the couple was married 76 years.
Born in Elroy, he was the son of the late Garret A. and Catherine (Hunsicker) Shoemaker.
He spent his early years working in local clothing shops before attending refrigeration and electrical school in New York. After graduation, he worked as a refrigeration and electrical mechanic before employment at Merck Inc., where he was employed for 22 years in that capacity.
He was an avid tennis player who enjoyed traveling. Mr. Shoemaker was a member of Zion Mennonite Church, Souderton.
He is survived by two sons, Alan, of Green Lane, and Robert, of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Landes, Susan Schmoyer and Catherine Kulp; and two brothers, Henry and Jacob.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Friday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. at Zion Mennonite Church, 149 Cherry Lane, Souderton. No calling hour. Interment follows at Zion Memorial Gardens.
