the ability to rotate players through, and that keeps us fresh,” West coach Brian Hensel said. “You see that it helped us defensively tonight. We had solid play from our defensive guys and they weren’t dragging.”

Junior John Derr, from a long line of Derrs, made his varsity debut at quarterback. He was 5-for-11 with two picks on what was a frustrating night all around for the Cardinals. The Upper Dublin ‘D’ was worn out by the end of the game.

“That’s a tough offense to start the season against,” Cardinals coach Bret Stover said. “But I thought our defense did a good job. We had some breakdowns, but our offense couldn’t keep their RIIHnsH RII WKH fiHOd.”

CB West held Upper Dublin under the century mark with only 99 yards of offense, including just 27 through the air. On the ground, the Cardinals averaged just 1.9 yards per carry.

“I’m proud of them,” Hensel said of his defense. “Our goal is to three-andout every team that we face. I think we’ve got guys up front that are learning how to play the game. We try to pride ourselves on being a team that runs to the ball and tackles. If you do those two things basically well, good things can come from it. “

West got on the board on its second possession of the game, when Riemenschneider found Schott near the goal line. After making a leaping catch with a defender hanging on him, Schott fought off would-be tacklers to reach the end zone. The score capped a nine play, 62yard charge.

The Bucks’ seemingly unstoppable offense struck for three more touchdowns in the second quarter. CiaudelOi’s fiUsW scRUH wDs Dn HiJKWyarder that completed a 12play drive. After Duggan’s interception on the next Upper Dublin series, Ciaudelli wasted little time scoring again.

The Cardinals found themselves backed up on their next series and punted out of their own end zone, setting the stage for Duggan’s touchdown rumble up the middle.

A bright spot for Upper Dublin was Khalid Weems’ performance on special teams. He had four returns over 40 yards.
