Sound & Vision

Keep those discs coming. Streaming: nay and yea. Home Theater nostalgia. TV size matters.

Please do not curtail your excellent reviews of 4K Blu-ray discs since they are one of the only reasons that I still subscribe to your print magazine. My subscription goes way back to the Home Theater magazine days. Unfortunately, I believe you have almost ruined the current mag with reviews of zillions of headphones and other similar equipment. While all that is okay, I suppose, there are thousands of new-to-hometheater folks who will never get the opportunity to learn about setting up gear, subwoofers, etc. The old Home Theater magazine provided articles on those subjects.

While we appreciate— and share—your enthusiasm for home theater-related content, times have changed since the heyday of magazines like Home Theater that focused exclusively on that specific segment of the A/ V market. Stereo systems, fueled to a large degree by high-res streaming and the vinyl revival, have made a comeback (though many would argue that enthusiasm for stereo never went anywhere), with the audio industry seeing strong consumer interest in affordable gear for music- only playback. Part of that trend includes wireless all-in- one speakers and, yes, headphones, though it’s not at all true that Sound & Vision reviews “zillions” of those (if anything, we’ve recently scaled back our coverage of headphones). As for instructional articles, please see our subwoofer setup primer on page 30.
