Sound & Vision

The Big Picture

-

I am a long-term subscriber. Most of the past 30 years (there was probably a gap of a few years somewhere). I think I subscribed to Vision when the magazines were merged.

The December 23/January 24 magazine has a lot of sound equipment but very little on vision. One review of an OLED Sony. I wanted you to know that I barely look at the audio equipment reviews but read most of the TV reviews. This issue was sorely lacking.

I almost never look to update my sound systems. In my TV room I have a 1999 M&K system where we had to put a damper under the subwoofer (saw the damper in your magazine) to keep our windows from vibrating. I have a three-year-old Yamaha receiver that replaced a wonderful 20-yearold Yamaha receiver.

At the same time, I replaced the mid-80s Pioneer receiver in my family room with another Yamaha. I upgraded both receivers so I could network the room through Musiccast. In my family room I have a 1980s Bose satellite speaker system along with a pair of Yamaha WX30 speakers. I am very happy with these speakers. When we moved in 1999, I gave my late 70s JBLS to my son because my family room did not have space for them.

In the same 25 years our TV has gone from rear projector (45 inches?) to a 57-inch HD rear projector to a Mitsubishi 73-inch DLP to a 75-inch 4K Sony that is now about four years old. I am now counting on your magazine to someday review all the options at 98 to 120 inches under $10,000 with a focus on under $5,000. The current TVS from TCL, Samsung, and Sony along with UST projector with a 120-inch retractable screen that could roll down to cover our front window.

Please consider that your readers probably upgrade the TV much more often than they do with audio equipment.

Thanks,

Howie Ditkof
