Grand Banks 60

“Supersize me” could be the theme of the Grand Banks 60, which made its world debut at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in Queensland, Australia. Going in a somewhat new direction for the builder in certain ways, the 60 retains characteristically salty Grand Banks lines, as well as modern, stylish good looks. And with a range of 2,000 nautical miles and a CE Category A rating, she’ll be able to go far in most any direction owners point her bow.

The 60 may be big, but she’s not slow. Grand Banks chose twin 725-hp Volvo Penta D11 diesels, which generate a top speed of 27 knots and an efficient cruise of 24 knots. Owners can opt for a pair of 900-hp D13 diesels, which increases the top speed to 31 knots and provides a cruise in the high-20-knot range. Peel the throttles back to 10 knots with the big power plants, and the Grand Banks 60 can cruise at her maximum range.

Inside are the fine joinery and attention to detail that yacht owners expect from Grand Banks. Harder lines and edges in the decor are minimized, creating a modern and minimalistic interior that’s quite smart- looking. Though owners can order the boat in different layouts, the standard three-stateroom floor plan will likely be most popular. The galley is up and aft in the main saloon and connects to the cockpit. The saloon also has a lounge area abaft the helm and companion seating. Outside, the Grand Banks 60’s cockpit has an adjoining, teak-capped swim platform, and the flybridge has tons of space for socializing, piloting and stowing gear, such as a dinghy.
