McMurdo’s SmartFind G8 AIS Auto Category 1 EPIRB is the first of its type to make use of the Galileo Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), a constellation of what soon will be 30 active satellites. It’s also the first mating of 406 MHz and AIS technologies in an EPIRB. In addition to GNSS capabilities, SmartFind utilizes conventional GPS, the Automatic Identification System (AIS), a 121.5-MHz Homer signal, Medium-Earth Orbit search-and-rescue satellites, and the International 406 MHz rescue frequency for fast emergency position fixes. The unit is housed in a rugged case and has a lithium-ion battery with a 10-year storage life. mcmurdogroup.com
