EDWARDSBUR­G - Verlaine Jean Hoffman, 96 years old of Edwardsbur­g, MI passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023 at Creekside Village in Mishawaka after an illness. She was born Sept. 8, 1927 in Elkhart, the daughter of the late Ernest and Emma (Engelhart) Reber. She lived in Elkhart and Edwardsbur­g most of her life. She enjoyed being a ‘Pink Lady’ as a volunteer for Elkhart General Hospital and served over 25 years, receiving her 25 years pin for her service.

Verlaine graduated from Elkhart High School in 1946. She married her high school sweetheart, Leo Hoffman on December 21, 1947, and they settled in Edwardsbur­g, after Leo received his degree from college. Leo became the Athletic Director for Edwardsbur­g High School. Her beloved Leo passed in 2016.

Verlaine was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on her beloved Edwardsbur­g Eddies, the Chicago Cubs and the Notre Dame teams. She enjoyed doing her sewing crafts, working puzzles and spending time with her family.

She was an active member of Hope United Methodist Church in Edwardsbur­g.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Nancy Hoffman of Granger, Randy (Connie) Hoffman of Three Rivers and Debbie (Karl) Bentzer of Granger. There are four grandchild­ren, Jason (Glenyce) Bentzer, Ryan (Heidi) Bentzer, Cory (Rachel) Hoffman, and Casy Hoffman, also nine great-grandchild­ren, Logan, Lucas, Sadie, Lila, Wyatt, Brendan, Blake, Madison and Emma.

Family and friends may gather on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main Street, Edwardsbur­g. A procession will leave the funeral home at 12:00 Noon for the Edwardsbur­g Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Leo.

The family has requested that Memorial Donations be made to the Edwardsbur­g High School Athletic Program, 69140 Section Street, Edwardsbur­g, MI 49112-9668.

Arrangemen­ts are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsbur­g.
