Former Colts cornerback Vontae Davis was found dead in a Florida home on Monday. WVSN News in Miami reported that Davis’ body was found at a home owned by his grandmother around 30 miles north of Miami. Davis was 35.

No foul play is suspected and the investigation is ongoing, police told WVSN.

“We lost a great today!!!” Chester Frazier, a former coach of Davis’ at the University of Illinois, said on X. “RIP TO @vontaedavis man nothing but good memories of that dude in school!!”

Colts owner Jim Irsay also took to the app to express condolences.

“Extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Vontae Davis,” Irsay said on X. “A great guy, teammate, player. My prayers to Vontae’s family.”

The Colts also released a statement, saying, “We are devastated to hear of Vontae Davis’s passing. He was a standout player in his six seasons with the Horseshoe, but he was an even better teammate who carried a smile and positive energy every day. He will be deeply missed, and we send our prayers to his family and loved ones.”

Davis arrived in the league as the No. 25 overall pick with the Dolphins in 2009. He arrived with high expectations and NFL bloodlines as the brother of former 49ers Pro Bowl tight end Vernon Davis.

After just three seasons in Miami, he was traded to the Colts for a pair of draft picks and went on to spend six seasons as a starter, totaling 76 starts. He reached the Pro Bowl in 2014 and 2015, racked up 13 interceptions with the Colts and helped lead the franchise to three playoff appearances, including the 2014 AFC Championship Game.

Davis played part of one game with the Bills following his departure from the Colts in 2017.
