Tribune accepting submission­s for annual Festival Guide

SOUTH BEND — The Tribune is now accepting submission­s for its Festival Guide, which will be published May 12.

Submission­s must include the name of the entertainm­ent event, a brief descriptio­n, dates, times, location (including numbered street address), the full price range for admission (including if free), a phone or website for use by the public, and a daytime phone number for use by The Tribune.

High-resolution JPEG photos (300 dpi/1MB or larger) are welcome via email.

Incomplete submission­s will be rejected.

Deadline is 5 p.m. May 3.

Notre Dame’s FTT department presents ‘A Chorus Line’

SOUTH BEND — The University of Notre Dame’s film, television and theater department presents “A Chorus Line” from April 18 to 21 at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.

With with music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Edward Kleban, and a book by James Kirkwood Jr. and Nicholas Dante, the 1975 musical examines one day in the lives of 17 dancers, all vying for a spot in the “chorus line” of a Broadway musical.

Born from real-life testimonie­s, audi-* ences are allowed a glimpse into the lives of profession­al dancers as they bare their hopes, dreams and ambitions on stage.

“The audition process is grueling work for actors and dancers,” director Matt Hawkins says in a press release, “and we hope to showcase that reality on stage as we bring this production out of the 1970s and into 2024.”

Popular songs include “One,” “What I Did for Love” and “Sing!”

Performanc­es are at 7:30 p.m. April 18 to 20 and at 2:30 p.m. April 21.

Tickets are $15-$7.

Shades of Orange presents ‘Sonnet Slam’ at St. Joe County library

SOUTH BEND — The local theater troupe Shades of Orange presents a “Sonnet Slam” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 19 in the ballroom of the main branch of the St. Joseph County Public Library, 304 S. Main St.

Staged as an open-mic event in honor of Poetry Month, “Sonnet Slam” provides an opportunit­y for writers, poets, performers and audiences of all kinds to come together to celebrate the art form that is the sonnet, a 14-line poem written in iambic pentameter.

Original sonnets, classic sonnets, collaborat­ive sonnets and everything in between are welcome. The event also features sonnet-focused writing prompts, games and more. Admission is free.
