The Hispanic Women of Distinction Luncheon honors 12 Latina professionals.
Mariachis de las Americas welcomed more than
900 guests to the 17th annual Hispanic Women of Distinction Luncheon at Signature Grand on Aug. 24. The event honored 12 Latina professionals for their contributions to South Florida. Myriam Masihy of NBC6 South Florida and Telemundo 51 emceed the event.
During the cocktail hour, guests enjoyed mojitos and healthy hors d’oevres and bid on items in a silent auction to benefit Habitat for Humanity Broward. The $14,600 raised will go toward helping low-income families become homeowners.
After the cocktail hour was a lunch and fashion show presented by Karina Fashion & Company. Designer Karina Gomez Herrera was named a Hispanic Woman of Distinction in 2017, lauded for overcoming domestic violence and creating a fund to help other abuse survivors move forward.
Two checks were awarded to nonprofits during the event as well. Kakes 4 Kids, a charity founded by Masihy that provides birthday parties to foster children, received a $1,000 donation. The event also honored the memory of its founder, Dr. Erwin Vasquez, by giving $5,000 to another organization he founded — the free healthcare facility Light of the World Clinic.
The 12 women honored during the event were Natalie M. Alvarez of North Palm Beach; Silvia Cerezo Beebe of Davie; Samantha Conde of Boynton Beach; Christine Bernard-Frederick of Coral Springs; Cristina Miranda Gilson of Weston; Ingrid Macher of Hollywood; Maria Nardi of Miami; Anne Reinstein of Plantation; Isabella Sanchez of Miami; Tanya Tamara Sanchez of Pembroke Pines; Edith Shiro of Miami; and Emily Zubizarreta of Coral Gables. Ana Maria Guevara was honored as 2018 Latina Pioneer of the Year.
