Kiffin picks Chris Robison to start at quarterback.

NORMAN, OKLA. — Moments before kickoff in Florida Atlantic’s 63-14 loss to No. 7 Oklahoma, a former Sooner was named the starting quarterback.

Owls coach Lane Kiffin went with redshirt freshman Chris Robison over Rafe Peavey and De’Andre Johnson on Saturday, but all three played with mixed results.

Robison finished 15 of 26 passing for 157 yards in three quarters of work. He never found a rhythm until late in the third quarter when he completed all five passes on FAU’s first scoring drive.

Kiffin said that Robison showed some anxiety.

“He’s a freshman in his first start and also coming back to the school he went to, so we tried everything with him to keep him calm,” Kiffin said.

Robison was not allowed to speak to media due to Kiffin’s rule barring freshmen from interviews. Robison signed with Oklahoma out of high school, but was dismissed last summer for violating team rules for a second time. He sat out last season at FAU due to NCAA transfer rules.

Peavey, a transfer from SMU, entered for one series to open the fourth, but threw an interception. Johnson later led a touchdown drive.

But that wasn’t enough for Kiffin to evaluate going into next weekend’s home opener with Air Force.

“All three guys obviously got to play, but also at the end of the game they had their backups in so you’re not playing against as good of players as the beginning of the game,” Kiffin said. “It’s hard to fault Chris. He did miss some throws, but he didn’t get a lot of help around him either.”

Singletary moves up

FAU star running back

Devin “Motor” Singletary

moved into second all-time in career rushing touchdowns with his third-quarter score, a 5-yard run with 55 seconds remaining.

Singletary now has 33 career touchdowns along with former Wisconsin star

Montee Ball. Singletary’s next target is Hall of Famer

Barry Sanders, who finished with 37 touchdowns at Oklahoma State.

Singletary ended Saturday with just 69 yards on 18 carries. That snaps a 12-game streak of 100 or more rushing yards, dating back to last season’s loss at Wisconsin.
