Quick slant: The Hurricanes return 14 starters on both sides of the ball from their first 10-win team in more than a decade. LSU, meanwhile, is looking to replace several starters, particularly on offense. LSU holds a 9-3 lead in the all-time series, but the programs have only met twice since 1979. LSU won the last meeting 40-3 in the 2005 Peach Bowl.
About No. 8 Miami: The Hurricanes enter the year with their highest preseason ranking since 2004 and face lofty expectations after winning their first Coastal Division title last season. Quarterback Malik Rosier, running back Travis Homer and receiver Ahmmon Richards headline a group of talented starters returning on offense, while safety Jaquan Johnson, a preseason All-American, cornerback Michael Jackson, defensive end Joe Jackson and linebackers Shaq Quarterman, Mike Pinckney and Zach McCloud lead the defense.
About No. 25 LSU: The Tigers will be breaking in a new quarterback in Joe Burrow tonight after he won a tight quarterback race in camp. A graduate transfer from Ohio State, he edged sophomore Myles Brennan for the job. The Tigers return two of the top defensive playmakers in the SEC in preseason All-Americans Devin White and cornerback Greedy Williams.
