Transplant surgeon
Jason Vanatta, M.D., F.A.C.S., has been named surgical director of Abdominal Transplantation at Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Florida, Vanatta was director of liver transplantation at the Methodist University Transplant Institute in Memphis, Tenn.; a transplant surgeon at Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tenn., and St. Thomas Health in Nashville, Tenn. He also was a general surgeon at Stanford Hospital and Clinics in Palo Alto, Calif., and an associate professor for the Department of Surgery in the Division of Transplantation at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
Family and primary care sports medicine physician Alejandro Centurion,
M.D., has joined Baptist Health Medical Group, a network of primary care doctors and specialists, as part of Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute. Centurion has worked as team physician for major league soccer teams, fellow team physician for major and minor league baseball programs, and assistant team physician for several collegiate and high school athletic programs. He also has provided medical coverage for national sporting events such as the Arnold Palmer Invitational Golf Tournament, NCAA Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament, and USA Triathlon Championships.
Two members of the Health Care District of Palm Beach County team recently received special recognition for their work improving the health of the Glades communities, honored by the Lake Okeechobee Rural Health Network. Sandra
Gove Chamblee, vice chair of the Lakeside Health Advisory Board and a founding mother of the Health Care District, which is marking its 30th anniversary, was presented a Lifetime Achievement award. Early in her career, Chamblee was tapped by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to oversee a study on HIV and TB in the Glades area. The study evolved into the Glades Health Initiative, a nonprofit organization that provides HIV education, testing, and linkage to care services which she ran for 14 years. She retired in 2010 and serves on the Lakeside Health Advisory Board, Lake Okeechobee Rural Health Network Board and is the president of the Women’s Club of Belle Glade. Additionally, Terri Calsetta, Lakeside Medical Center’s director of patient experience and hospital communications, was also honored as a Rural Health Champion. On behalf of the hospital, Calsetta sits on the Glades PATCH (Planned Approach to Community Health) Board, the Belle Glade Chamber of Commerce Board, the Leadership Glades Board, Alzheimer’s Community Care Board.
Maureen Mann, executive director of Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute and Christine E. Lynn Women's Health & Wellness Institute, has received the Volunteer Award for Excellence in Advocacy by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. The honor recognizes Mann’s efforts to enhance awareness of cancer research and treatment. Each year, a lead volunteer who has consistently demonstrated strong leadership while advocating in areas of cancer-related public policy receives this award.
Education
Leonard Pounds has been named vice president of clinical operations at Nova Southeastern University in Davie. Pounds will oversee all clinic operations, including the revenue cycle, and work to enhance the patient experience at NSU’s 39 centers where 220,000 patients visit annually. In addition, he will work closely with NSU’s deans, strengthening academic programs and ensuring that research opportunities are readily available for all academic centers. Pounds joined NSU in 2007 and has held various roles in the Office of Innovation and Information Technology, most recently as the deputy chief information officer.

Carlos Gutierrez joins the brokerage as Sales Manager on Miami Beach. Gutierrez was previously principal Realtor at Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate, and he is currently serving as the 2018 vice chair and 2019 chair of the Local Leadership Idea Exchange Council for the National Association of Realtors.
Stephen Smith, formerly vice president of the Hogan Group, has joined Tower Commercial Real Estate as senior managing director, serving clients in the MiamiDade and Broward County markets.

Pérez Art Museum Miami has named
Sharon Holm as deputy director of marketing and public engagement. Holm was most recently vice president of marketing and communications at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, in Charlotte, N.C.
Law
Jon Sale has been appointed by the U.S. Sentencing Commission as a voting member of the Commission's Practitioners Advisory Group, where he will be the sole representative for the Eleventh Circuit covering Florida, Georgia and Alabama, for a three-year term, which began Nov. 1. The U.S. Sentencing Commission selects one voting member to represent each federal judicial circuit. The Practitioners Advisory Group helps the Commission carry out its statutory responsibilities, offers advice to the commission, and disseminates information to members of the defense community. Sale, who is based in Miami, is cochair of the Nelson Mullins White Collar Defense and Government Investigations Practice Group.

Mary Scott Russell has been named director of marketing for East Ridge at Cutler Bay, a not-for-profit life plan retirement community. From an early background in the restaurant and hospitality industry, Russell launched an impressive career in public service. She served as commissioner, vice mayor, and ultimately mayor of the city of South Miami. She chaired Informed Families South Miami Coalition and, most recently, as president and chief executive officer of ChamberSOUTH Chamber of Commerce.

Canine Assisted Therapy, a nonprofit that provides pet therapy to trauma victims, veterans and hospital patients, has named Elizabeth Middlebrook to its board of directors. Middlebrook is vice president of digital delivery at Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
