Three pets rescued from home fire
Firefighters rescued three cats after fire gutted a Dania Beach mobile home.
Another cat was killed by the heavy smoke, and the home was destroyed, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Michael B. Kane said in an email.
The fire broke out in the Ramgoh Mobile Home Park, 4668 SW 45th Ave. One of the residents told firefighters she heard a “popping sound” just before smoke began to fill the home and force the family to flee, leaving their four cats behind.
When Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was already billowing out from the front door.
Firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the blaze, as well as saving the cats inside.
Kane said it took firefighters approximately 20 minutes to extinguish the fire which left the mobile home a complete loss. Three of the felines, all exposed to the acrid smoke inside the home were ultimately rescued.
But firefighters could not reach the fourth cat in time and it died.
“Ultimately, the aggressive actions by the first arriving fire companies greatly contributed to the positive outcome and rescue of the three cats,” Kane said. “The firefighters response in this case certainly tipped that scales in the cats favor. Thankfully, no human lives were lost.”
Investigators are still trying to determine what sparked the blaze.
The residents are staying with cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The family will be staying with friends and family, Kane said.
