Starting with a traditional Bahamian junkanoo band performance, the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation celebrated the organization’s adventure expeditions and research findings, while honoring conservationist Ron Bergeron for his efforts to preserve the Everglades.

“More than 8 million people rely on the Everglades for their drinking water, therefore it is a natural resource worth saving and restoring back to health,” Bergeron said in a release. “When we do that, we can also save Florida Bay and the ocean, which need clean water to thrive.”

One of the philanthropist’s current pres- ervation initiatives is the planning and establishment of the Bergeron Everglades Museum and Wildlife Foundation.

Protecting the Everglades, he noted, will have an impact on ocean conservation as well.

“Restoring the natural flow of the Everglades is the first step to long-term viability of both ecosystems,” said Bergeron.

The banquet also featured a dinner, an open bar, and a live and silent auction featuring artwork, ocean excursions, gift baskets, jewelry and more. Proceeds benefit the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation’s scientific research and education programs to preserve the marine environment.
