Holiday Hangover one of many things to do this month

January is a prime month for visitors. This is the month where a lot of us South Floridians suddenly find ourselves with house guests trying to escape the bitter cold in the rest of the country. Or maybe they’re tourists passing through on their way to a Caribbean cruise.

Either way you might need to find something to entertain your out-of-towners, so here is a list of stuff to do in Broward, MiamiDade and Palm Beach counties.

Thursday — You look like you need one more Holiday Hangover

This annual event is being staged for the fifth time at the Historic Stranahan House Museum in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Sure, there’ll be food from a dozen vendors (Louie Bossi’s, Publix, Gran Forno Pronto, Georgia Pig, etc), but much more importantly there will be an open bar presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka and a wine bar by Ocean Wine and Spirits. Thursday-Jan. 13 — Getting artsy in WPB

The Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary Art Fair (the plus sign is their idea, not ours) will return for the third time to downtown West Palm Beach. The curated fair will offer works from the 20th and 21st centuries in a tent set up on the pavilion between CityPlace and the Hilton West Palm Beach. There is an opening night VIP preview Thursday from 5-9 p.m. with tickets going for $150. Otherwise, the general admission days for the fair are Friday-Sunday, Jan. 11-13, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at 825 S. Dixie Highway and Okeechobee Boulevard (behind Restoration Hardware). Thursday-Feb. 10 — Where the bathhouse and Broadway meet

Back in the early ’70s, Bette Midler and Barry Manilow used to perform in the oh-so-scandalous Continental Baths in New York City. Those heady days are evoked in the new Island City Stage production “Bette and Barry: From Bathhouse to Broadway,” which imagines the dynamic duo once again performing in concert. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 5 p.m. Sundays at Wilton Theater Factory, 2304 Dixie Highway, in Wilton Manors. Tickets are $40. Jan. 14 — Cher, dammit

You gotta give it up for her self-deprecating sense of humor, naming her latest world tour “Here We Go Again.” The legendary Cher, along with dance music icons Nile Rodgers and Chic, will bring their tour to SoFlo for one night only. Cher, who recently got her props from the Kennedy Center Honors, is expected to perform her own hits as well as some songs from her “Dancing Queen” album, a tribute to ABBA that was sparked by her role in the movie “Mamma Mia 2 — Here We Go Again.” See what she did there? Anyway, hopefully she will dish a little about the Broadway musical “The Cher Show,” which she is co-producing. The concert starts at 8 p.m. at the BB&T Center, 1 Panther Parkway, in Sunrise. Jan. 18 — Success hasn’t spoiled Rick Springfield, yet

Rocker and actor Rick Springfield comes to SoFlo with a songbook full of hits, including “Jessie’s Girl,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” “Human Touch,” “Love Somebody,” “An Affair of the Heart” and “I’ve Done Everything for You.” Expect a few numbers from his latest bluesy album “The Snake King.” Springfield has also recently appeared in HBO’s “True Detective,” the CW’s “Supernatural” and FX’s “American Horror Story: Cult.” The concert starts at 8 p.m. at the Pavilion at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, 5550 NW 40th St., in Coconut Creek (the corner of State Road 7 and Sample Road). Jan. 19 — A sort of paint ball, if you will

Life In Color, the event that mashes up (quite literally in some cases) electronic music with art installations, got its start on Florida college campuses in 2007 and has since been franchised all over the world. The street festival includes art, vendors, acrobats and cannons shooting gallons of water-based paint onto an enthusiastic crowd. For the 12th annual Miami party, the lineup will spotlight Diplo, DJ Diesel (Shaquille O’Neal), Ray Volpe, Wooli,

Jan. 20 — Brunch and blues in Boca

This event will feature food trucks serving brunch in Mizner Park, the al fresco dining and shopping enclave in Boca Raton. And up on the stage of the adjoining Mizner Park Amphitheater will be performances by blues and jazz artists. There will be other jazz brunches Feb. 24 and March 31. And there will be a free performance of “Romeo and Juliet” on Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. The Sunday Brunches are from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at 327 Plaza Real, in Boca Raton. Admission is free.
