BB&T Center was bustling with activity on United Way’s 27th annual Day of Caring, when more than 500 volunteers gathered to prepare 300,000 healthy oatmeal packages for Broward County residents in need of food.

The volunteers were employees of 30 companies, including Alpine ITW, Balfour Beatty Construction, FHP Manufacturing, Florida Panthers, Grant Thornton, EcoLab, T-Mobile, WSVN, Community Capital Management, HealthTrust Workforce Solutions, Nova Southeastern University, Publix Super Markets, Steven Douglas and Ultimate Software.

The packed boxes were sent to 25 local food banks through Project Lifeline, a United Way program aimed at fighting hunger.

The program feeds 420,000 clients and families each year.
