South Florida dog lovers looking for some romance may dig this new app.

Dig, the Dog Person’s Dating App, matches single people who own dogs or just really care about them.

“Miami dog-lovers are very dedicated to their pups, and we know they’re looking for a partner who will love their dog as much as they do,’’ said Leigh Isaacson who co-founded the app with her sister Casey Isaacson in New Orleans last year.

The idea for the app came after Casey Issacson broke up with a guy who had issues with her dog Layla in his apartment.

“Casey was dating a guy who ‘tried’ to be a dog person for her,’’ recalled Leigh Isaacson. “By the end of the relationship, he didn’t want Layla (a Cavapoo) in his apartment, or he’d put towels down on the coach so Layla didn’t touch anything.”

The sisters did some digging, so to speak, and found that more than half of single adults in the U.S. own pets with dogs as the top choice.

“We knew there was a huge need to combine these two growing industries so single people could find someone who was compatible with their dog and dog-lifestyle,’’ she said. How does the app work? Once users download the app, they fill out their profiles and upload a photo of themselves (preferably with their pooch).

The app will ask if they have a dog or if they want to meet someone who owns one so they can scroll through the suggested profiles.

The app also allows people to filter searches by dog size. And there’s a feature for finding dogfriendly locations to meet from parks and beaches to and bars and nearby events.
