South Florida Sun-Sentinel Palm Beach (Sunday)
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Sun Sentinel deserves accolades
Several months ago, in an email to one of your reporters, I mentioned that I thought the South Florida Sun Sentinel should win the Pulitzer Prize for its relentless, comprehensive coverage of the Stoneman Douglas massacre.
As many a Pulitzer has come out of tragedy, your staff should allow themselves to be proud and happy for this coveted honor.
Your incredible, voluminous work has been evident and powerful to readers in exposing the seemingly endless mistakes and shortfalls surrounding the senseless gun violence, deaths and injuries of so many innocent people, and the thousands of family, friends and neighbors affected by this horror show.
The American public today demands their media provide them with immediate 24⁄7 information with complete truth and accuracy, and many turn around to bite the hand that feeds them, despite being an obviously impossible task.
Real facts and truth are not things you just make up out of your head and declare true because you say so. It takes time (sometimes forever), money, passion, brains and more to get the real story.
Whether you always agree with the Sun Sentinel or not, we are lucky to have them, and they deserve our thanks and accolades for their award-winning pursuit of the truth in this tragic Parkland mess.
What they are doing will, hopefully, help lead our community to crucial information and answers to prevent future gun violence.
