Countdown to Boca Raton Mayors Ball begins with Rotary event
Models in couture evening wear, glasses of bubbly and dance performances set the scene for a fashionable night out at Saks Fifth Avenue, Town Center at Boca Raton for The Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton 2019 pre-event reception for the fifth annual Boca Raton Mayors Ball presented by Marilyn and Jay Weinberg.
As the ball’s fashion sponsor, Saks welcomed honorees, sponsors and committee members against a backdrop of ball gowns and men’s formal wear.
Leading the evening’s program was Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton President Dr. Allen Konis and supporters were able to purchase “Chance to Win” tickets, offering “sought-after experiences” valued from $800 to $5,000.
Everyone has the opportunity to purchase tickets for $50 each for one of 10 drawings and they don’t have to be present to win. Organizers say 100% of the proceeds go to the “Service Above Self” Fund for health and wellness programs benefiting area nonprofits. Visit squ.re/2kca4Km.
The Boca Raton Mayors Ball will take place Saturday, Nov. 16 at Boca West Country Club with a Rotary theme-colored blue carpet and gold entrance, cocktail reception and dinner with city-themed décor curated by the Boca Raton Historical Society & Museum, according to Jon Kaye, Mayors Ball founding co-chairman and 2019 event producer.
The gala serves as a “Service Above Self ” fundraiser that recognizes “individuals and organizations that through their daily community involvement and business practices promote the city of Boca Raton in a positive way and showcase Boca Raton as a great place to live, work, play and educate.”
The George Long Awards sponsored by Boca Raton Regional Hospital — named for the city’s first appointed mayor in 1924 — will honor Kevin Ross, Lynn University president (Individual Category), Bluegreen Vacations (For Profit Category) and Florence Fuller Child Development Centers (Nonprofit Category).
Boca Raton Mayors Ball co-chairpersons Dyana Kenney and Michael Walstrom are also Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton members. Jerry and Terry Fedele are serving as honorary chairpersons.
“It is inspiring to feel the excitement and pride that fills the ballroom when so many longtime community stakeholders, spanning several decades, unite and celebrate at the annual ball,” Walstrom said in a statement.
Proceeds from the 2018 Mayors Ball benefited 27 Boca Raton-based nonprofits and Rotary International’s Polio Plus Program, according to organizers.
