Medical
Tenet Florida Physician Services announced the selection of Michael S. Davis,
MPH, MBA, as its chief executive officer. Prior to joining the organization, Davis was president of Pediatric Specialists of America, Nicklaus Children’s Health System’s physician group practice.
Education
St. Thomas University’s Athletic Director, Laura-Courtley Todd, has been promoted to full-time assistant professor for sports management at the university’s Gus Machado College of Business. Additionally, Head Football Coach William Rychel was promoted to director of the university’s athletic department.
Broward Health’s Hung Nguyen, M.D., psychiatry, is being recognized for “Excellence in Clinical Teaching in Psychiatry,” for his outstanding contributions as a clinical educator by Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. In addition to working as an assistant professor at FIU’s medical college, Nguyen, a Broward Health Physician Group doctor, provides behavioral health care for patients at Broward Health Community Health Service’s Bernard P. Alicki Health Center, which treats patients who are homeless.
Literacy
Broward County Library Community Engagement Manager Roslyn Dean, PhD, was named as one of Library Journal’s 2020 “Movers & Shakers” in the Digital Developers category. Movers & Shakers is an annual list of emerging leaders in the library world selected by the editors of Library Journal, for its May edition. Dean was recognized for her work in coordinating two recent Broward County Library initiatives, Virtual AARLCC and Project Welcome. Virtual AARLCC is Broward County Library’s virtual exhibition of 20 important acquisitions from the Special Collections of the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, featuring 3D models of African masks, carvings, figurines and other unique and significant artifacts. Project Welcome is a program that supports English-language learners/newcomers to Broward. It offers targeted library services that support them on their path toward literacy, economic prosperity and a sense of belonging. Additionally, Project Welcome received the Florida Library Association’s 2020 Library Innovation Award, which recognizes a Florida library that uses innovative methods, projects, products, or or
ganizational enhancements.
Maritime
Jonathan Daniels has been selected as the new chief executive and port director at Port Everglades, from the Port of Gulfport, Mississippi, where he has been the executive director since 2013.
Beverages
Miami-based spirits conglomerate Toast Distillers has named David Garretson chief financial officer. Toast Distillers Inc. includes the Miami Distilling company. Toast Distillers specializes in developing brands internally, as well as facilitating the branding and distribution needs of other specialty spirits companies.
Finance
Marcum LLP named Moises Ariza the office managing partner for its Miami office. Ariza was made a partner last September.
Hercules Investments, a Los Angelesbased registered investment adviser, and independent wealth manager, announced the addition of Harry Kamataris as vice president of wealth management, in Palm Beach Gardens.
Seth Siegel has been named office managing partner of Grant Thornton LLP’s
Miami and Fort Lauderdale offices. He replaces Doug Gawrych, who is retiring from the firm on July 31, 2020 — his mandatory retirement date. Siegel, a member of Grant Thornton’s Partnership Board and its Audit Quality Advisory Council, joined the firm in 1996.
