Education
Miami Dade College’s Board of Trustees announced the selection of Madeline Pumariega as the College’s fifth and first female president. She is expected to assume office in early January. This marks a return to the institution for Pumariega. Pumariega began her academic career at MDC and returned to work at the College for 20 years, growing her career and culminating as president of the Wolfson Campus. In her most recent role, Pumariega is executive vice president and provost of Tallahassee Community College, She was also appointed as the first female and Hispanic Chancellor of the Florida College System in 2015. Prior to that, she was president of Take Stock in Children, a statewide nonprofit focused on breaking the cycle of poverty through education.
Denise O’Loughlin has been appointed principal of St. Vincent Ferrer School, in Delray Beach. She has worked there as assistant principal for the past two years. Her appointment follows the retirement of Vikki Delgado, who was principal since 2008.
Palmer Trinity’s Head of School,
Patrick H. F. Roberts, in Miami, was recently voted President-Elect of the Florida Council of Independent Schools’ Board of Directors. His two-year term commences June 2021.
George J. Taylor, a partner in Brinkley Morgan’s Estate and Trust and Business Litigation practice groups, was appointed to serve on the Board of Governors of Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law.
