To the rescue of those of us still without a creative idea on how to handle Valentine’s Day comes the rustic and cool Marando Farms & Ranch in Davie, setting for a new series of outdoor dinner-anda-movie nights beginning on Feb. 14 with the romantic comedy “Gringo Wedding.”

Hosted by the nonprofit Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, the monthly series will continue with similar dinners on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17), with “Wild Mountain Thyme” by John Patrick Shanley of “Moonstruck” fame, and an Earth Day (April 22) screening of “Kiss the Ground,” featuring among others Woody Harrelson, Gisele Bündchen and some guy named Tom Brady.

For Valentine’s Day, the evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a glass of champagne, passed hors d’oeuvres, guitar from veteran band leader Martin Hand (Gold Coast Jazz Society) and a garden tour of Marando Farms & Ranch, a bucolic slice of old Florida farm life.

Located at 5151 SW 64th Ave., in Davie, Marando Farms has an organic market, a cafe, an array of artisan vendors, a petting zoo teeming with pigs, goats, chickens and ponies, and 10 acres of equestrian trails.

“Gringo Wedding” follows the long-distance romance of an advertising executive in Miami, Matt (Justin Kane), and finance manager Rebecca (Ana Lucía Domínguez) in Bogotá. The 2006 release was written and directed by Broward College film professor Tas Salini.

The dinner screening, co-sponsored by Twilight Features and Epic Outdoor Cinemas, includes a farmto-table meal with soup and salad, two entrée choices and dessert course. A vegan option is available. Tickets cost $80 per person, $150 per couple, at FLIFF.com. Bottles of champagne cost $20 in advance, $30 on-site.

“Wild Mountain Thyme” will be accompanied by an Irish-inspired menu (TBD) on March 17. The 2020 film, starring Emily Blunt and

Jamie Dornan as would-be lovers on neighboring Irish farms, is adapted from John Patrick Shanley’s Broadway play. Oscar winner Christopher Walken also is among the cast.

The Earth Day screening of “Kiss The Ground” on April 22 (menu TBD) will celebrate the ethos at work at Marando Farms with an eye-opening documentary on soil and its role as a solution to the climate crisis.

Featuring acclaimed environmentalists Josh and Rebecca Tickell, and narrated by three-time

Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson, the film includes stars of the environmental movement and pop culture, including wife-and-husband Bündchen and Brady, Jason Mraz, Patricia Arquette, David Arquette and Rosario Dawson.
