Thought Saturday was hot? Sunday is expected to be even hotter, so brace yourself South Florida. It’s gonna be a scorcher.

Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties came close record highs Saturday. Both Broward and Palm Beach counties reached 91 degrees and Miami-Dade reached 90.

Five decades before central air was common in newly built homes — (the late 1960s) —MiamiDade in 1908 set a record when on April 17 that year, the temperature reached 91 degrees. Broward set a record on April 17, 1939 when it reached 92 degrees. Palm Beach County’s record high for April 17 was set in 1972 when it reached 93 degrees.

“We are close but no records,” said Barry Baxter, a forecaster.

The mercury is expected to reach to 93 in MiamiDade and Palm Beach counties on Sunday. The high in Broward is supposed to be 92. If Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties do reach 93 degrees, the counties will tie for record-setting temperatures set in 2015 in Palm Beach County and last year for Miami-Dade. The record high in Broward for April 18, was also set last year when it was 93.

The weekend’s heat will be followed rain showers and storms Monday and Tuesday as a cold front pushes down the state, Baxter said.

The cold front, really won’t feel cold, but starting Wednesday the cold front will bring back normal temperatures for this time of year — mid 80s, Baxter said.
