The Urban League of Broward County announced the election of new leadership and members to its board of directors. Shawn Sackman, middle market leader for Truist, was elected chair of the board of directors; and Tim Hogans, manager of external affairs for Florida Power and Light Co., elected as 1st vice chair. Sidney Calloway, partner for Shutts, will be on the organization’s executive committee as immediate past chair along with the following members: Marie Waugh, executive human resources consultant, 2nd vice chair; Jason Jenkins, senior vice president of communications, Miami Dolphins, secretary; Pablo Pino, market leader for TD Bank, treasurer; and Giselle Cushing, Cigna — South Florida and Caribbean market president, memberat-large.

Raimundo Rodulfo, the city’s director of information technology and chief innovation officer of Coral Gables, received the Globant Awards: Digital Disruptors, in the Transformation Catalyst category for the North America Region. This awards program recognizes individuals around the world who have championed change and internal disruption through digitization, innovation by leveraging data, while operating in an agile way and adapting seamlessly to new market realities.

The Gold Coast PR Council, a South Florida independent association of public relations, communications and marketing professionals, announced its annual Bernays Award winners. The individuals recognized include: the President’s Award: Jorge Pesquera, president and chief executive officer of Discover The Palm Beaches; PR Star: Lisa De La Rionda, director of Palm Beach County’s Public Affairs Department; and The Founders’ Award: GCPRC Treasurer Michael Turnbell. Other honorees included public agencies and entities for their campaigns.

The West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority announced the appointment of Richard V. Reikenis as president and William P. Jacobson as vice-chair of its board of directors. Attorney Varisa Lall Dass, with the law firm Kelley Kronenberg P.A., also joins the board.

Mary Ann Knaus was named senior vice president of revenue and marketing for GOJA in Miami. GOJA creates, buys, and grows brands on Amazon.
Life sciences
Adam S. Grossman, president and chief executive officer of ADMA Biologics, Boca Raton, and Joe Sardano, chief executive officer, chairman and founder of Boca Ratonbased Sensus Healthcare, were named as new members of the board of directors for BioFlorida, the voice of Florida’s life science industry, representing 6,700 establishments and research organizations in the biopharmaceutical, medical technology, and bioagriculture sectors.

Key Biscayne’s Rusty Pelican Miami restaurant, part of the Specialty Restaurants Corp., appointed Derrick Badenhorst as general manager. Badenhorst was recently in Burbank, Ca. as general manager of Castaway, another SRC restaurant.

Tropical Financial Credit Union announced that Nicole Phillips joined the credit union’s marketing department as digital and social media content strategist, in Miramar. Phillips replaces Kara Yaquinta, who was promoted to digital growth strategist.

Legal Aid Service of Broward County announced that James Heaton, supervising attorney for the Veterans Unit, has been appointed to be the vice chair of the Florida Bar Military & Veterans Affairs Committee. Boyd & Jenerette added Carla Howard as a partner in the firm’s Boca Raton office.
Fox Rothschild LLP announced that Vijay S. Choksi joined the West Palm Beach office as counsel in the corporate and cannabis law practice groups. Prior to joining Fox, Choksi was general counsel and senior director of compliance for GrowHealthy, a Florida-based medical marijuana provider.

West Palm Beach-based Hedrick Brothers Construction promoted Ryan Hutchins to the role of chief estimator.
Religious
Beth David Congregation announced the appointment of Stuart C. Rosenberg, CPA, as its new president. Rosenberg is a retired partner of MBAF following its acquisition by BDO. In his new role, Rosenberg also will be involved with the creation of the Center for Jewish Life, a new facility that will coexist with the synagogue and its schools.
