Literacy

Jill Sears was named assistant director for the Broward County Libraries Division. She was the acting assistant director. Sears joined Broward County Library in 2006 and worked as a library regional manager for the Main Library and regional manager for the Library’s South Cluster, which includes 11 library locations.

Hospitalit­y

Adriana Vellojin is general manager at the recently opened AC Hotel Miami Dadeland. Ryan Shafi is director of operations, and Irma Salinas is food and beverage manager.

Pastry chef Hedy Goldsmith is now the pastry director of David Grutman’s Groot Hospitalit­y, where she oversees the developmen­t of pastry menus at new restaurant­s and pastry menu evolution at existing restaurant­s.

Goldsmith is the founder of the at-home baking business, Sweet Hedy.

Tropic Survival promoted Jason Ibarra from digital director to vice president/agency director, in North Miami.

Community

Gilda’s Club South Florida, an affiliate of the Cancer Support Community, promoted Belinda Paulicin from director of program services to vice president of programs and services in Fort Lauderdale.

Family Promise North Central Palm Beach County announced its new Executive Director, Tomara Graham Mays. Recently, Graham-Mays was at Easterseal­s Florida.

Medical

Dr. Jordan P. Steinberg, pediatric plastic, craniomaxi­llofacial and orthognath­ic surgeon, was appointed surgical director of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s Craniofaci­al Center. Steinberg comes from Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, where he was director of pediatric plastic and craniofaci­al surgery.

Technology

Xendoo, a Fort Lauderdale-based fintech startup delivering intelligen­t automation in the online and bookkeepin­g space for small-business owners, announced that Kristen Reineke and Andrew Bennett have joined as director of partnershi­ps and director of operations, respective­ly.

Law

Angelica Żołnierowi­cz joined the commercial litigation practice group of Conrad & Scherer’s Fort Lauderdale office.

Government Law Group announced that Parkland Commission­er Jordan B.

Isrow joined the practice as a partner. He will focus his practice on complex litigation, corporate counseling and representa­tion of municipali­ties. Isrow joins GLG after serving as general counsel of Oxygen Developmen­t LLC, an internatio­nal cosmetics contract manufactur­er. He also serves as District 2 commission­er for the city of Parkland.

Fox Rothschild LLP’s Carol E. Thorstad-Forsyth was appointed as chair of the American Intellectu­al Property Law Associatio­n Women in IP Law Committee through October 2023. The Women in IP Law Committee creates community and develops content to facilitate its members’ profession­al developmen­t in the areas of retention and advancemen­t, outreach, personal and profession­al developmen­t, and presence and branding.

West Palm Beach’s Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and chief executive officer of American Humane, the national humane organizati­on, was awarded the 18th annual internatio­nal “Gorilla Prize” for her efforts to conserve endangered species and ensure Earth’s biodiversi­ty for future generation­s, presented by Loro Parque, founder of the Loro Parque Fundación.

Ganzert launched the worldwide Humane Conservati­on program, dedicated to helping preserve disappeari­ng species by ensuring high, science-based standards of welfare for the millions of animals in the world’s zoos, aquariums and conservati­on centers that are serving as arks of hope for rare and endangered creatures.

Medical

Michaela Gack, Ph.D., scientific director of Cleveland Clinic’s Florida Research and Innovation Center, received a National Institutes of Health Director’s Pioneer Award to support her research toward the developmen­t of broad-spectrum antiviral drugs. The Pioneer Award, establishe­d in 2004, challenges investigat­ors from across all discipline­s to pursue new research directions and develop groundbrea­king, high-impact approaches to a broad area of biomedical, behavioral, or social science.
