Finance
Grant Thornton LLP named Mark Margulies as its managing partner for South Florida, including the firm’s offices in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. He was most recently a senior partner in Grant Thornton’s corporate tax reporting and advisory practice.
Humana Inc. announced that Caraline Coats will lead its South Florida Medicare market, responsible for an 11-county South Florida region, which includes Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties. Coats also is interim-chief executive officer of The Humana Foundation.
Law
Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin added Dawn Marshall as special counsel in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office.
Sara Mancini joined
Miami-based The Downs Law Group as an attorney.
Education
University of Miami Law School’s Master of Laws in Real Property Development LL.M. Program expanded its advisory board with the addition of three new members: Joseph Hernandez, Jessica Melendez,
and Oscar Seikaly. Hernandez is a partner and chair of Weiss, Serota, Helfman, Cole, & Bierman, P.L.’s
Real Estate practice group. Melendez is vice president of development of the Related Group. Seikaly is chief executive officer and owner of NSI Insurance Group LLC.
Florida Atlantic University’s Arthur and Emalie Gutterman Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education annual Educator Appreciation Dinner at the Renaissance Boca Raton Hotel featured recognitions that celebrated the work of K-12 teachers supported by FAU’s CHHRE and honored the 2021 Gutterman Family Outstanding Holocaust Educators. Florida Atlantic University named Julie G. Pilitsis,
M.D., Ph.D., as the new dean of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, beginning in February 2022. Pilitsis is currently division chief of functional neurosurgery and chair and professor of the basic neuroscience department at Albany Medical College in New York.
The Broward County School Board elected Laurie
Rich Levinson as chair and Patricia Good as vice chair.
Levinson and Good were first elected to the School Board in 2010.

Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Carlos Duart to the Florida International University Board of Trustees. Duart is the founder and chief executive officer of CDR Enterprises Inc. and its subsidiaries CDR Health Care Inc., CDR Maguire Inc. and CDR Financial Services, Inc.
Hospitality
The Boca Raton appointed general managers for its five hotels: Anthony Rico,
Beach Club; Brice Kemper,
Tower; Corinne Heyl, Yacht
Club; and James Carmody, of both the Cloister and the Bungalows. Also, Antonia Korosec will oversee resort operations across the property.
Cultural
Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden announced three new members to its board of directors: Anne Gannon,
Palm Beach County’s Constitutional Tax Collector since 2006; Claudia Mendoza, chief executive officer of
