Vigils to honor survivors and remember those lost in Parkland school shooting
Vigils on Feb. 14 in South Florida will mark four years since the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland in which 17 students and faculty lost their lives in a mass shooting. Gatherings, events and commemorations will honor the fallen and support the continued recovery of families and survivors.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, where the tragedy took place, has marked Feb. 14 as a non-academic day and instead honors and remembers the 17 fallen students and staff and those that were injured as a Day of Service and Love.
Coral Springs. Wellness Day, 1-4 p.m., Eagles’ Haven, 5655 Coral Ridge Drive. The Eagles’ Haven community wellness center serves the MSD community through programming and support services with activities such as meditation, rock painting, bracelet making and more. cityofparkland. org/msd17
Parkland. Community Commemoration, 5:30 p.m., Pine Trails Park, 10559 Trails End. A brief commemoration ceremony conducted by spiritual leaders to honor the 17 victims and the MSD community. A short video will be shown immediately following the ceremony. Support services will be available at Pine Trails Park beginning at 5:30 p.m. in addition to off-site wellness resources listed below that are always available to the community. The event will include therapy dogs on-site, a memory wall displaying photos of the victims, an area to write messages, a brief commemoration ceremony and video honoring the victims. cityofparkland.org/msd17
