How Queen Elizabeth changed one child’s life

The passing of Queen Elizabeth greatly saddened me. She would never know the vital impact that she made on one little Chinese girl in the colony of Hong Kong.

We were refugees from mainland

China, escaping incoming communist rule, and took safe haven in Hong Kong. At the Queen’s coronation in 1953, I was one of thousands of schoolchildren lining the streets, waving a small British flag in the coronation parade.

To mark the occasion, we were given the day off from school and a silver chalice. My father soon made a decisive move. He realized we were in the British commonwealth with English the official language. Suddenly, I was moved from the Chinese primary school to an English school to learn the Queen’s English.

Thus began my long journey to learn the language, culture and everything about being British.

A whole new world with vast opportunities opened up to me. I became an English teacher to broods of Chinese youngsters so that they would have a brighter future with proficiency in the English language. How rewarding it was to see my former students achieve their goals and dreams.

After coming to America, I still read and followed the Queen. I admired her tenacity, especially as a promise keeper. She had her share of ups and downs in life but remained a rock-solid example for her household and country.

Queen Elizabeth, may you rest in peace. May God crown you with lots of precious jewels for a job well done.

It’s un-Christian

“The foreigner residing among you must be treated as native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God” — Leviticus 19:34. There are at least 22 other Bible verses instructing Christians to welcome foreigners. Only hypocrites, and certainly not true Christians, believe that DeSantis should be anyone’s governor or leader.
