Video released of Brightline train at top speed, 130 mph

The Brightline train service recently tested its train to hit a top speed of 130 mph in Central Florida, and it’s putting the quick travel on full display with video.

“We’re officially the fastest train in Florida and the Southeastern US after reaching speeds of 130 MPH during testing along our new 35-mile rail corridor between @MCO and Cocoa,” the company says.

The high-speed display comes as the company readies to start providing service this year from South Florida to Orlando. While there is no date set yet, Brightline has been hinting that service between the two major areas could happen between April and June.

Brightline tested its high-speed capability on their new 35-mile rail corridor between Orlando International Airport and Cocoa Beach last week.

A new Brightline promotional video shows the high-speed train making its way to Cocoa Beach. The train easily passes cars on the State Road 528, or the Beachline Expressway.

Brightline is required to test trains to run faster than planned operating speeds. Once passengers are aboard, Brightline trains will travel at top speeds of 125 mph, or more than two miles a minute. Typically, the top speeds are expected to be 125 mph from Orlando to Cocoa; 110 mph from Cocoa to West Palm Beach, and 79 mph from West Palm Beach to Miami.

With the recent 130 mph speed test, it’s officially now the fastest train in Florida and the southeastern U.S., the company said.

“People will start to see our trains going back and forth more frequently. We want them to be aware of that and if they are driving on the road, to stay focused on that. This is brand new track we are going to be certifying,” Brightline spokesperson Katie Mitzner told Orlando-based TV station WFTV News.

Of the start of South Florida-to-Orlando service, Brightline said this week on Twitter: “Although we can’t give you a specific date today, we are closer than ever to connecting Florida by high-speed rail!”
