David Yorra

-

With sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of David Y or ra, beloved husband to Judy, devoted father to Lesley Gold man, Allison Yorra, Bruce Yorra, fatherin-law to Michael Gold man and Jeff Tack es and Poppi to Arin Gold man, Cail in Gold man, Ryan Y or ra and Ian Tackes.

David lived a long, vibrant life and would have been 100 years old at the end of March.

At 9 years old, David survived rheumatic fever, and while recovering, was elected Mayor of the boys ward of the Boston Good Samaritan Hospital. This show of early leadership was a quality that continued throughout his life, including being involved in his local community once he retired.

David’ s professional life began with an Optometry practice in Clinton, NC. In 1953, David moved to South Florida to study real estate and construction. Seeing the need for low income housing, David purchased his first tract of land in West Hollywood and built 90 homes, birthing Crest haven Enterprises. Overtime, David expanded his vision to affordable housing and shopping centers, but his lasting achievement was Cresthaven East, a project that appreciated that there comes a stage in most individuals’ lives where they want to hold on to some autonomy while needing some assistance. He was recognized by Congressman Paul Rogers for this innovative approach to assisted, independent senior living. David received many professional acknowledgements such as being twice honored with the Condominium Community of the Year Award from the state of Florida, as well as Condominium Developer of the Year, and recognition by Senior Citizen magazine for his Cresthaven Villas design.

In 1986, David was appointed by then Governor Bob Graham to the North Bro ward Hospital District Board of Directors. A 35 year resident of The Polo Club, David was elected as President of Polo Club Board of Governors in 1993 and maintained his commitment to the Polo Club community. David was an active member of the Jewish Federation of South Bro ward and supporter of Boca Rat on Hospice.

David was intellectual ly curious and full of life. He was an amazing role model and always made family his priority. He will be truly missed.
