Oh, Florida, where ironies abound

-

One word describes the all-around political situation in Florida: ironic.

The Legislature wants to restrict social media access for children because it’s harmful to their health and development. Yet the same clueless group thinks nothing of trying to pass a law lowering the age of gun ownership to 18. Last time I looked, I didn’t see any social media school massacres or death by iPhone.

Isn’t it ironic that in a free society, the populace can be told they can’t vote on the right to abortion because the state attorney general argues they’re not smart enough to figure out the language? The myopic Legislature has no problem banning or removing books from libraries, but has the chutzpah to demean the intelligence of more than a million people who signed petitions calling for such a vote.

Our petulant governor thinks nothing of sending troops to Texas to interfere in a federal issue, but does nothing about the lack of law enforcement patrolling I-95. He’s so concerned about the border, but refuses to consider a bipartisan immigration bill. Isn’t it ironic that Florida’s nursing home population is among the most at-risk group for COVID in the U.S. due to low vaccination rates when virtually all medical and scientific authorities have unequivocally stated the new vaccines are safe?

Hundreds of thousands of kids don’t have medical coverage because our governor and his lemmings won’t accept federal aid. Better to be sick and tie up emergency rooms than prevent illness.

Finally, how pathetic that this excuse for a leader and his legislative puppets assail our rights and freedoms while we accept it as “politics as usual.”
