Teen Tech Center wave hits South Florida
HANDY’s new Teen Tech Center at 501 NE Eighth St. in Fort Lauderdale will have its grand opening on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 4 p.m.
The Clubhouse Network and BestBuy have teamed up to establish these teen tech centers all over the country, in cities such as Los Angeles, Oakland Park, Chicago, Minneapolis, New Orleans, San Antonio and Washington, D.C.
“We applied for the grant last summer, so the whole process took about year,” said HANDY Teen Tech Coordinator Alana Ashley.
From 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Fridays, teens ages 12 to 19 can explore graphic design, animation, gaming, HANDY recently opened its new Teen Tech Center where youth ages 12 to 19 can explore different STEAM disciplines from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“Every now and then we
will bring in a mentor with a particular skillset to work with kids,” Ashley said, adding that those interested in volunteering do not need to be STEAM experts. “We’re
asking for a commitment of one day a week for six months.”
