An injury scare to Cardinal Gibbons defensive end Khris Bogle, one of Broward County’s top high school football prospects, will not be as severe as some were beginning to speculate.

Bogle sustained a knee sprain on one of the first few plays of the Chiefs’ kickoff classic at Key West on Thursday night. It was determined Saturday morning that he will be out three to four weeks after he underwent an MRI on Friday night.

Bogle is ranked the fourth-best weakside defensive end nationally in the 2019 class by 247 Sports’ composite rankings. As a junior, he registered 70 tackles, 23 for loss, and 13 ½ sacks.

There are four September visits Bogle has planned — to Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Alabama. Already having taken an official visit with the Volunteers, he’s following up with an unofficial. The other three are official visits.

With four of his allotted five officials — when the college covers expenses — planned, he is considering Oregon for the final one. Bogle has also visited the Miami Hurricanes unofficially multiple times.

Gibbons won the preseason exhibition 41-7. Senior quarterback and Kentucky commit Nik Scalzo completed 14 of 16 passes for 208 yards.

The Chiefs enter the season ranked 20th in the nation by MaxPreps and are hoping to bring the school its first state football title in Class 5A this season. Many players, including Bogle, were on hand at American Heritage on Friday night to watch the Patriots, the team that has stood in their way the last two seasons, win their kickoff classic against University School.
