Aquinas’ renaissance man

UM commit Solomon finds inspiration in family, football, more

FORT LAUDERDALE — On the field, Anthony Solomon is known for his speed, his coverage skills and his innate knowledge of the game, a knowledge honed by years of working with his uncle Roger Harriott, one of the most successful high school football coaches in South Florida.

Off the field, well, Solomon is known for a little bit of everything else.

The St. Thomas Aquinas linebacker who has already verbally committed to the Miami Hurricanes spends his offseasons training in mixed martial arts. He’s a savvy art student who enjoys working with clay and once starred in a movie he wrote and directed for one of his film classes. There are the afternoons he spends tinkering on cars with his dad or making music with his cousin. And then there’s the parkour and the freerunning.

“It’s like, stunt-double stuff,” Solomon explains with a smile. “When you see people jumping from building to building, it’s like that. It’s actually quite dangerous.”

Dangerous might be a bit of an understatement, especially considering Solomon is widely regarded as one of the top high school football prospects in the country and is expected to be one of the key contributors for St. Thomas this season as the Raiders look to add another championship to their Raiders’ linebacker Anthony Solomon (11) celebrates during the first half of the nationally televised matchup between DeMatha (Md.) and St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday night in Fort Lauderdale. Aquinas won 38-0. Get more high school coverage, SunSentinel.com/highschool

“Being able to play for the city where I grew up will be a dream come true.”
