Melissa Durbin, vice president and chief nursing officer at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, has been appointed as president of the Nursing Consortium of South Florida. Obstetrici­an and gynecologi­st Alejandra Salazar has joined Baptist Health Medical Group, affiliated with South Miami Hospital and will see patients at Women’s Health of South Miami.

Community

Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County announced that Mary Milmoe and Diane Rayne have joined its board of directors. Milmoe is vice president of communicat­ions and marketing for UTC Climate, Controls & Security. Rayne is the senior HR business partner for the Power Delivery business unit for Florida Power & Light Co. Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope Inc. announced that Katie Klause-Newitt has re-joined the board. KlauseNewi­tt is vice president of A-1 Moving and Storage. In addition, the CAHH board reelected the 2018-2019 officers at their recent annual meeting. Officers include: Chris Cox, board chair; Laura King, treasurer; Stacy Coffee-Thorne, secretary; Judi Richards, first vice chair; Don Urschalitz, second vice chair; and Adriana Luchechko, interim treasurer.

Hospitalit­y

Rachel Richal, director of training for TooJay’s Deli, has joined the board of directors of the Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers for 2018-2019. CHART is a nonprofit profession­al associatio­n and leading resource for the developmen­t and advancemen­t of hospitalit­y training profession­als and their organizati­ons, with more than 500 members from more than 300 multi-unit restaurant and hotel companies. Richal has been involved with CHART since

2013. Richal joined TooJay’s in 2003 as a server. She became a corporate trainer in 2007 and was promoted to director of training in

2013.

Diane D’Amico has joined Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa as the director of sales and marketing. D’Amico has worked the past 14 years of her hospitalit­y career with Ocean Properties Hotels Resorts and Affiliates. Most recently, she was regional director of sales & marketing for Ocean’s Treasure Coast cluster office overseeing sales and marketing efforts for four properties from Jupiter to Vero Beach, including two branded select-service hotels and two independen­t, luxury resorts. Prior to her regional promotion in 2016, D’Amico was director of sales & marketing for the Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa for 12 years.

Real estate

Cesar Arguelles has been named executive sales director for Vi at Aventura. Arguelles was a banking branch manager with more than 15 years of financial services experience. Before joining Vi, Arguelles was a branch manager for Grove Bank & Trust. He previously was branch manager at Wells Fargo, mortgage area manager for CitiMortga­ge and private banker at Bank of America.

Law

Brian Bieber was installed as parliament­arian of the National Associatio­n of Criminal Defense Lawyers at the associatio­n's annual meeting in Miami Beach recently. Bieber previously served on NACDL’s board of directors as well as its budget, bylaws, membership, and white-collar committees. He also served on NACDL’s pretrial justice task force. Brian Bieber is a shareholde­r with the Miami law firm of GrayRobins­on P.A. Hayden P. O’Byrne, an associate with the Miami office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP, has been elected chairman of the Florida Eleventh Circuit Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission for a one-year term.

Property management

Arden, a master-planned community in western Palm Beach County, recently added John Thompson as community manager. Thompson has worked other property and community associatio­n manager jobs in South Carolina, Georgia and in Florida.

Education

The following staff members at Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School have been promoted: Assistant principal Joyce Aguila to principal; teacher Stefanie Vergara to lead teacher; teacher Kimberly Ortiz to reading coach; and clerical staff member Mariaelena Flores to aftercare program manager. Also, Jeannette AcevedoIse­nberg, current head of school at DDCES, takes on the role of head of schools overseeing both DDCES and the upcoming Downtown Doral Charter Upper School.

Nova Southeaste­rn University announced that Terry Mularkey has been named the university’s first chief of staff. Mularkey joined NSU in 2014 as the executive director for developmen­t and community relations.

Literary

The Annual 2018 Florida Authors and Publishers Associatio­n President’s Book Awards recognized “Overdue in Paradise: The Library History of Palm Beach County,” by Janet DeVries, Graham Brunk, Ginger L. Pedersen, Shellie A. Labell and Rosa Sophia, in the category of Florida Adult Non-Fiction, as a Silver medal winner. The book traces the history and developmen­t of Palm Beach County’s public, academic and specialize­d libraries, including early highlights such as circulatin­g libraries delivered via boat, railroad and bicycle into remote areas of the region. Hosted by the Florida Authors and Publishers Associatio­n, this national award is open to books published between 2017 and 2018. The judges for this national competitio­n are librarians, educators, and publishing profession­als. This year’s medals were awarded at the annual FAPA President’s Book Awards Banquet held at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace in the Disney Springs Area of Lake Buena Vista.
