How to save up to $700 on new Apple iPhone Xs

- Doreen Christensen

Apple unveiled three new smartphones on Sept. 12 and I’ve got the

411 on how to save up to

$700 with deals from Verizon and T-Mobile.

Apple’s smartphones, available for preorder now, are really big, with price tags to match. The iPhone Xs, which has a

5.8-inch display, starts at

$1,000. The Xs Max, the largest phone ever with a 6.5-inch screen, starts at $1,100. Both arrive in stores on Sept. 21. A smaller, cheaper, iPhone XR, due out Oct. 26, starts at $749.

Leave it to Apple to make more of less. While the new Xs is smaller than last year’s iPhone 8, the screen is bigger. The devices have a sharp OLED display that ditches the home button in favor of facial-recognition technology to unlock the screens. They also have an A12 Bionic processor, dual cameras, more durable glass and are water resistant, among other upgrades only geeks like me will appreciate.

One of the coolest features of Xs models is a dual e-SIM card that lets users have two cellular phone plans on the same phone so they can toggle between two phone numbers and even different carriers. That’s great news if, like me, you have to carry a work phone and a personal phone. Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T support this innovative new technology.

Now that you want a new Apple smartphone, here are a few deals.

Verizon came right out of the gate with a sweet offer: Buy one iPhone and save up to Verizon and T-Mobile have deals on the new iPhone.

$700 on a second device with a new line of service. Mix-andmatch any X, Xs and Xs Max. Pay full price for the two phones and then you’ll get a monthly credit of

$29 spread over two years. Or, opt for a 256GB iPhone 8 or 8 Plus device and get a $24.99 monthly credit for two years.

Don’t need two phones? Trade in select phones in good working order to get $100 or more off spread over 24 months of bill credits.

Call Verizon or go to Verizon.com for more info.

While Sprint and AT&T have not announced any deals yet, T-Mobile is offering $300 in bill credits with trade-in toward new devices. That offer is also good on cheaper iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

Call or go to T-mobile.com for details.

Apple has a trade-in program, too, at Apple.com/shop/trade-in. It showed my iPhone 7 in good condition would fetch $200.

Apple also introduced a new Series 4 Apple Watch, which starts at $399. Keeping with the theme, the device also has a bigger screen and a heart sensor that can detect irregular heart rates. It can even perform an electrocardiogram. (No word on when it can perform brain surgery.) Among other upgrades, the wearable, which requires users to have an iPhone 6 or newer, will be able to detect when someone falls. If the user doesn’t respond within a minute, it will call for help. That’s a handy feature for when you faint over the heart-stopping price of the fancy new Hermes edition Watch with a leather double band. It goes for a cool $1,400.

I told you they were big.

I’ve got two cheesy deals to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day, which is Sept. 18.

First, get a free Dave's Single at Wendy's every day in September with an offer on Wendy's mobile app. Get the daily deal with any purchase — and that includes those 50 cent small Frostys!

Go to Wendys.com to download and sign up, and eat for cheap for the rest of the month.

BurgerFi also has a deal good on Sept. 18: Buy one cheeseburger and get another for a $1 at participating locations. No coupon is necessary, but you will need plenty of napkins. Enjoy.
