Why America is Angry

-

LaMarca no guarantee of “seat at the table”

I am perplexed with the Sentinel’s reasoning in endorsing Chip LaMarca for State House Rep. The Sentinel says, as a Republican, he will have a seat at the table. If LaMarca doesn’t side with Republicans in Tallahassee, he will have no more power than a Democrat so the seat at the table argument isn’t valid. If we elect more Democrats such as Emma Collum, we guarantee ourselves a seat at the table on issues that are important to Democrats. Emma will fight for us on issues like affordable healthcare, rising sea levels, gun safety, $15 minimum wage and a woman’s right to choose. If LaMarca is elected, Democrat’s voices will fall on deaf ears as they have for the last eight years with Moraitis. We need more representation by Democrats as well as women in Tallahassee and Emma is certainly well qualified to represent us.

Today Americans seem so angry and more than ever need to win to feel good. It begs the question, why? One of the reasons may be our unrealistic level of expectations. Growing up in the 50's and 60's,living in an apartment and not a home was the norm. Few families had more than one car, one TV, or one phone. TV was free, yet entertaining. Vacations was everybody even grandparents piling into the family car and taking a road trip for a week. Whether things were better back then is very debatable, but people seemed happier with less. I am a fan of the so-called K.I.S.S. principle or keep it simple stupid. Couldn't hurt at this point.

Scott Shampaner,

Coral Springs U.S. support needed against global warming

Super storm Sandy, 2012. Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, 2017. Hurricanes Florence and Michael, 2018. These weather extremes, plus intense tornadoes, floods, droughts are the result of global warming. We hear the expression, “Thousand year storm,” but, they seem to occur much more often than that. Sadly, the United States seems to be the only nation in the world to doubt the relationship between these extremes in weather and global warming. We dropped out of the Paris Climate Accord because it wasn’t good for business. Mayors and governors, much to their credit, are going it alone. Obviously, not nearly as effectively, without the support of the federal government. I hope that the current administration will listen to the scientists who are shouting the warnings before it is too late to save our planet.
