Police identify man found in parking lot of Walmart

The body of a man found in the parking lot of a Walmart store in Coconut Creek has been identified.

Michael Robin Griffin, 56, of Coconut Creek, was located about 3 a.m. Friday at 5571 W. Hillsboro Blvd., according to Coconut Creek police.

A concerned friend had called police when Griffin failed to show up Thursday night, said police spokesman Scotty Leamon.

“It was essentiall­y a welfare check,” he said. “They told us there were a few places he could be and we found him here.”

Griffin’s body was discovered on the ground next to a red Chevrolet Camaro he had parked on the south side of the Walmart that is open 24-hours, police said.

There are security cameras in the parking lot. Investigat­ors are expected to view surveillan­ce videos for clues to what happened, Leamon said.

How Griffin died was not immediatel­y disclosed. No arrests have been made.

Police said this is the first homicide of the year in Coconut Creek.
