Police identify man found in parking lot of Walmart
The body of a man found in the parking lot of a Walmart store in Coconut Creek has been identified.
Michael Robin Griffin, 56, of Coconut Creek, was located about 3 a.m. Friday at 5571 W. Hillsboro Blvd., according to Coconut Creek police.
A concerned friend had called police when Griffin failed to show up Thursday night, said police spokesman Scotty Leamon.
“It was essentially a welfare check,” he said. “They told us there were a few places he could be and we found him here.”
Griffin’s body was discovered on the ground next to a red Chevrolet Camaro he had parked on the south side of the Walmart that is open 24-hours, police said.
There are security cameras in the parking lot. Investigators are expected to view surveillance videos for clues to what happened, Leamon said.
How Griffin died was not immediately disclosed. No arrests have been made.
Police said this is the first homicide of the year in Coconut Creek.
