Local chefs’ gumbo benefits nature center
Local restaurants competed during Gumbo Limbo Nature Center’s inaugural GumboFest.
Gumbo Limbo Nature Center may be named for a tree native to South Florida, but the nonprofit’s most recent fundraiser was all about the Cajun stew.
Hundreds of guests gathered for the inaugural GumboFest, which featured gumbo tastings from local chefs competing to serve up the best recipe. Participating restaurants included the Funky Buddha Brewery, Publix Aprons, Ouzo Bay, Boca Resort & Beach Club and E&M Catering.
First place went to Chef Andrew Donovan of Ouzo Bay, followed by Chef Ray Dolan of Boca Resort & Beach Club in second place.
The event also featured live music, drinks, games, raffles, food trucks and more. Funds raised will support Gumbo Limbo’s efforts to steward coastal marine resources, including its sea turtle rehabilitation and conservation programs.
